Greetings Members
With nationwide school holidays happening, the Gold Coast has seen a significant boost in tourism, injecting a welcome influx of spending into local small businesses. With families traveling across the country, our hotels, restaurants, and souvenir shops have seen increased foot traffic and sales. As the Gold Coast is the tourism capital of Australia, this is good news for local entertainment and hospitality enterprises.
The Gold Coast Marathon this weekend is an exciting event to look forward to, as 30,000 individuals are preparing to compete in Australia’s flattest, and most scenic running route. Head down to the marathon as a spectator to support those running or volunteer to help at this wonderful community event. Make sure you check the Gold Coast Marathon website for specific road closures and detours on the day to assist planning and avoid delays.
The Pacific Air Show is rapidly approaching, from the 16th-18th of August, the show promises to draw crowds from all corners of the country, showcasing cutting-edge technology in fighter jets and aircraft. This event not only provides entertainment but also serves as a platform for local businesses to capitalise on increased visitor numbers. Hotels and eateries are likely to see heightened patronage during the event, while retailers may benefit from souvenir sales and related merchandise.
The recent spell of cold and rainy weather has hampered construction projects, delaying progress on the light rail and contributing to dangerous road conditions. The subsequent increase in traffic congestion and reduced parking availability, continues to pose challenges for local small businesses. Furthermore, many small business owners continue to struggle, and some have had to make the heart-breaking choice to close due to the steadily eroding purchasing powers of consumers as the continuous rise in interest rates and inflation are only adding to the cost-of-living pressures that are causing prices to continue to rise.
As always, if you have any State issues you would like to discuss with me, don’t hesitate to contact my office.
