Greetings Members,
We are now on the rapid ride to Christmas; time to dig out all those decorations. While we reflect on the eventfulness of the last month, it is important to remember that 2023 still has plenty to offer.
There have been some big victories for a handful of small businesses of the Gold Coast over the last month. Two popular spots along the Gold Coast Highway have reopened amid the disruption of the Light Rail Construction Project, demonstrating extreme resilience in the face of uncertainty. In early October, the Little Truffle: Dining Room and Bar opened its newly refurbished doors, much to the joy of the local community. Just across the road, the local Growers Market also re-opened, with plenty of fresh and vibrant food to choose from. Suffice to say, there’s unlikely to be a shortage of dining or market options in the near future. While the success of these two businesses is worthy of celebration, it is important that we continue to support them – as well as all small businesses on the Gold Coast – over the holiday period, and while the light rail construction continues to hinder business in the Mermaid Beach electorate.
The tourism high that the Gold Coast has been riding since early August continued this month. In the last two weeks alone, event after event has drawn in crowds from across the country, and around the world. Country music fans flocked to Broadbeach for the Groundwater Music Festival, Supercar enthusiasts packed the streets of Surfers Paradise for the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, and Beatles legend Paul McCartney performed the final show of his Australian Tour at our very own Heritage Bank Stadium. Once again, the Gold Coast proves itself a worthy contender for the title of the “events capital of Australia”.
If you missed any of these events, there are still plenty to come in the last months of 2023. Ranging from night markets, to live music events – including carols in the park – and fabulous firework displays to welcome in the new year, there’s lots of fun on offer for Gold Coasters and their families these holidays.
