The major event announcements just keep on coming for the Gold Coast in 2022.
In April, Mayor Tom Tate, and Major Events Gold Coast (MEGC) announced one of the world’s biggest and most spectacular airshows will take to the skies above Surfers Paradise beach from August 2023.
Renowned for its heart-pumping aerobic displays, awe-inspiring aviation feats and huge crowds, Pacific Airshow is the biggest event of its kind in the US and now its landing on the Gold Coast.
Secured by MEGC with the support of Tourism and Events Queensland, this spectacle-scale event will inject a significant economic boost into the local economy annually. MEGC CEO Jan McCormick said securing a major international event of this calibre was a game changer for the Gold Coast and helps cement our reputation as a world-class international events destination.
The airshow is just one of the major new events announced for the Gold Coast in April. The city will host the first match of the inaugural Queensland Champions Cup in July with the globally popular Leeds United FC taking on our own Brisbane Roar FC at Cbus Super Stadium. Expect thousands of football fans here to stay, play and spend in our city. For the first time, the Gold Coast will also host an International Boxing Federation world title fight in the coming months and in a massive coup for the city, global Grammy-award winning superstar Harry Styles will bring his Love on Tour to Metricon Stadium in February 2023, the only Queensland show!
The economic and reputational benefits of these newly secured world-class events are huge, and we’re only just getting started!
